 Black Lady Playing Card

Dream Publishing Updates - November 1, 2024

Dear Reader,

A lot of new friends have joined the newsletter recently. I wanted to say thank you to all the new friends and remind all my old friends how important you are to the journey. I hope this behind-the-scenes look into the dream is interesting or helpful to you.

It's been awhile since I did a publishing update segment. A couple of hurricanes got in the way. Hopefully, I'm back on track, but with the holidays and semester exams coming up, who knows how on track anyone can be this time of year? So here goes nothing.

News from the dream

Serial Fiction

Kingdom Rising is a completed work.

Royal Council is a completed work.

Valkyrie Riders is currently publishing chapters to Sorceress Valkyrie. As I pen this post, only nine chapters remain to be edited and posted. This story is on track to post all chapters within the next two weeks.

Apocalypse Denied is on hiatus, having posted the last chapter to Devil's Sins. It should resume posting chapters in the next story after the New Year.

Mystic Dark is on hiatus, having posted the last chapter to Dream Dark. It should resume posting chapters in the next story after Thanksgiving.

Lyons Gate is currently publishing chapters to Elysian Fields. As I pen this post, only eight chapters remain to be edited and posted. This story is on track to post all chapters within the next two weeks.

Gods of the Dream is on hiatus with no known timeline for additional chapters, although I plan to add two more novella tales in the miniseries. I have written in both. Neither is a completed manuscript, and the muse remains fickle.

Kings Wilde Art

Kings Wilde, Eagle Lords, and Demon Allies are all waiting in the wings, hoping to get their days in the sun along with a host of further miniseries. I had hoped to set up Demon Allies by Christmas, but it may need to take a backseat to Valkyrie Riders and the current muse favorite of Kings Wilde.

Storycasting

A Pack Forms is serializing with daily episodes on the Draoithe Saga Storycast. Listen to the audiobook chapters or read the story. fantasy violence and steamy scenes dip behind the paywall to protect sensitive audience members. Season one will post its 37th episode on Halloween and continue on until the tale ends. There will be a brief pause before season two, Druid Fox, begins. I haven't finished creating the episodes for it yet, and I may not have it ready before A Pack Forms concludes.

Dungeon Master and Sorceress Valkyrie

Book Publishing

Dungeon Master released early! I was happy about that. If you haven't looked into Blaze, he's one dark dragon. This story is only the tip of the iceberg. If you love him as I do, you'll enjoy his cameo appearances in later tales. I will let you discover him for yourself, though. No need to give away spoilers.

Sorceress Valkyrie and Elysian Fields should publish in November. I'm hoping to get them out into the world as books over the Fall break. That's the week of Thanksgiving. I know it's not good timing. It must be the worst book launch plan ever designed, but there's so much to do and so much more I want to do in the dream. My crazy schedule and lack of funds are no good for promotional efforts, so why wait?

For now, getting the backlist polished and published is the goal. I'll do what I can to promote the Draoithe Saga along the way, but marketing has never been something I was good at. The stories matter. So they will remain my focus until there's time to focus on learning to market them again. You know, summers.

Behind the Scenes: WIP

The muse is on a Kings Wilde kick at the moment. I started writing this story in 2019. It's been through several renditions with a lot of starts and stops along the way. It's still nowhere near completion, but there has been a significant uptick in additional content over the last month. Writing in this miniseries helped get me through two hurricanes.

As I've been writing, I discovered The Monarch was far too long. At first, I believed some chapters may belong to other tales. That may still prove to be true, but at this point, I believe the story simply needed to be divided.

The problem? It was going to be a six-part series. Now it's seven. Sigh.

The muse will laugh at any plotting I do and promptly mess it up. The good news? I think I outsmarted her this time.

I created far more art for these stories than I could use. My wallet complained, but at this stage in this tale, I'm smiling. Even if I must add another title, I already had the proper cover imagery. I even sneakily listed several other titles, just in case. With my muse, one can never be too sure of anything except that long-form storytelling Rules!

Time Was Up

Savannah

“Are you up for hearing the rest?”

 Armand sobered a bit.

“Yes, please. I have a bit of breathing room and nothing on my to-do list until Thursday morning. I’ve got time to think it through.”

He offered his readiness to hear her words.

That was good. She could only hope he continued his therapy until he got control over the druid magic he’d been born with.

She’d given him the option of Lyons Gate as well. She still didn’t believe he would take her reference and use it, but if things changed, he might one day need it. He should know all the options.

Savannah handed him printed copies of Kallik’s assessment and the two manuscripts he had emailed to her concerning Druid magic and its application.

“I want you to read over this material carefully. I believe this to be the most accurate information I can find to explain your issues. This might be hard to accept right away, but I believe you were born with the gift you have. It wasn’t something forced on you with drugs and archaic magic, as you mistakenly believed.”

He lifted his brow in surprise.

“The dreamwalker I consulted was accurate in his evaluation. It’s my professional opinion you’re a born druid mage from a line of kings. A man whose soul was born touching ancient magic from another plane of existence. Failure to use it consciously has caused your memory loss. It’s also what drives your peculiar sexual needs every twenty-one days.”

He looked over the documents in his hands as she spoke and nodded.

“I believe you. This describes me. It’s as if someone wrote about me. It explains a lot. I need to study this seriously.”

He looked up at her.

“I hoped you’d say that. I’d like to see you Thursday to answer questions you might have about what you read. But I’m a bit out of my field here. I left nothing out. Should you prefer to work one on one with an expert, I have no issue with writing a referral to Lyon’s Gate, as the dreamwalker suggests.”

“No. Absolutely not. You. That’s it. I don’t want anyone else poking around in my head, Doc. No way. I trust you, but I don’t know about this guy named Lazlo. Nope, sounds like a bad idea.”

His instinctual rejection of the idea only proved Savannah had been correct in her initial assumption about his reaction toward a referral.

He was still the same man he’d been when he arrived in her office four weeks before. She knew a lot more about him, but he hadn’t changed.

“I thought you’d say that, but as your doctor, I’d be remiss if I didn’t suggest you see an expert. This is, of course, all outside of normal parameters. You’re a rare thing, Armand.”

His head snapped up, and his gaze locked on hers like a raptor.

“Is rare good, Savannah?”

She thought for a moment.

“I believe it is, yes. It’s also dangerous, and you need to learn a lot. I believe I can help you with your ‘fix’, as you referred to it as well, but it would require more therapy.”

She blushed as she looked away. Why it should matter when she spoke to him about sexual issues which had never mattered before with any other patient made no sense to her.

The owl inside ruffled its feathers. She wanted Armand as her mate. That wasn’t happening. She was his therapist. He was a client.

It wasn’t even possible for him to be everything the way the owl believed. He was part of the criminal underworld.

She’d fled her family to get away from that. She wouldn’t jump back into it with the dangerous man before her.

“Really? I might be interested in that offer. Only thing is, I’m sure we aren’t talking about it on the same terms. First things are first. Go out to dinner with me?”

He asked her, grinning as he also eyed her again.

Savannah barely managed not to groan in frustration with the childish game he’d been playing since they first met. She should have referred him to a colleague, but who was she kidding? No one else would have known how to help him, and he wouldn’t have gone.

“Counseling, Armand. I don’t date my patients, remember?”

“Yeah, but I gotta ask, doc. You might change your mind one day. Better me than another date like your last one. At least you know all I want is dinner and company, unless you say otherwise. The otherwise would be damn good, though.”

He raised his eyebrows up and down at her. The hint at what he wanted was obvious. She wanted to laugh, but that would egg him on. She stared at him without expression. He shrugged.

“I’ll read and think about this. I’ll see you Thursday.”

He grinned and left as their time was up.
